The objectives of DVW are laid down in the association's bylaws as follows: To promote the disciplines of geodesy, geoinformation and land management in science, research and practical experience. To contribute to the education, further training and professional development of its members, and in this context, to promote national and international co-operation. To co-operate with technical and scientific associations as well as with universities and other institutions. To contribute to legislative proceedings at federal level as far as the concerns of geodesy, geoinformation and land management are affected. To present the achievements and the importance of geodesy, geoinformation and land management to the public.
